In the course of excavations, they managed to find the remains of two hitherto unknown to science species of saber-toothed cats that lived in Africa over 5 million years ago. The discovery changed the scientists’ perception of these extinct animals. In 2010, scientists placed satellite beacons on beaked whales (Ziphius cavirostris) off the California coast, which are medium-sized whales that live in temperate and tropical waters around the world. Thus, they were able to establish their outstanding diving ability.
