In the course of excavations, they managed to find the remains of two hitherto unknown to science species of saber-toothed cats that lived in Africa over 5 million years ago. The discovery changed the scientists’ perception of these extinct animals. In addition, the researchers noted that their findings can tell a lot about the changes that occurred in the environment at that time.

Specialists indicated that the extracted remains belonged to two new species, named Dinofelis werdelini, as well as Lokotunjailurus chimsamyae, along with bones of other species already familiar to the scientific community, which were Adeilosmilus kabir and Yoshi obscura Scientists specified that the fossils were found by them near the locality of Langebaanweg, located off the western coast of South Africa.

The bodies of aquatic mammals such as whales and seals are adapted to withstand the waves and intense pressure of the ocean while underwater without air for long periods because, unlike fish, they are only able to obtain oxygen by breathing in air at the water’s surface. Now scientists have figured out which of these animals dives deeper than the others.

In 2010, scientists placed satellite beacons on beaked whales (Ziphius cavirostris) off the California coast, which are medium-sized whales that live in temperate and tropical waters around the world. Thus, they were able to establish their outstanding diving ability.

One of the eight tagged beaked whales dived to a depth of almost 3 kilometers! Moreover, one of these whales also spent more than two hours underwater.

It is noted that marshy lowlands, where Venus flycatchers grow, are often prone to fires due to the abundance of dry grass and lightning. Despite the fact that most of the vegetation suffers from this, the flycatcher, in turn, calmly tolerates them and even begins to feel better when its nearest neighbors are burned.

To find out how they do it, the scientists moved the flycatchers to an open field, put dry hay on them and set them on fire, fanning the fire with fans. The experts saw that the trapping leaves on these plants rapidly closed, allowing them to survive and start hunting after just a few days.

The stomach in cats is the most sensitive and vulnerable part of the body. It is said that cats bred by their mother do not like to be stroked on the belly without permission, because whenever the kittens behaved inappropriately, the mother scratched them just in that place. So cats are not allowed to stroke their own belly to everyone.

But if the animal itself exposes its belly to be stroked by the owner, it can be regarded as the highest degree of trust and an indicator of special affection. The cat knows for sure that this person will not hurt him.

If the pet closes its belly, you should not climb to him, otherwise he will release his claws.

Several previously unknown colonies of the emperor penguin have been discovered by scientists on fresh satellite images. This is an important discovery, given that this bird species is threatened with extinction.

Emperor penguins breed on isolated patches of sea ice. If the ice melts before the chicks fledge, most of the offspring will die. Global warming is exacerbating the melting of the ice, and many penguins are forced to migrate to other areas. In particular, a colony near Hallie Bay has moved about 30 kilometers to the east.
